Hi, my name is Ian H Powell but many of my friends know me as “iam” (pronounced like Ian).

The first wedding and the first funeral I conducted both occurred in 2012 when I was requested by friends to serve as a minister of sorts which in each case I took as a very great honour. Since my adolescence I have performed many functions as a public speaker and so I guess I had shown I was able to find the right words when it counts. Since then, I have qualified through the International College of Professional Celebrants and so I come fully insured and my credentials have been verified.

Much of my life has been spent on a creative quest for truth; mostly working in the fields of the Arts and Education. Using my creativity in many ways, I have produced all kinds of artwork and had numerous articles, books and poems published. Hosting countless events from weddings and funerals to festivals and concerts, I’ve also played music at these events and helped to facilitate ceremonial settings for other rites of passage.

As a father of three girls and one boy, I have been able to experience many of the trials and the challenges, the joys and the pleasures of family life. Working with many other children as well as my own, I have been able to see first hand, the power of family support, especially through the difficult challenges life can bring.

For years, I have studied communication and I have been entrusted to work as a mediator for couples as well as offering counsel to individual clients upon request. During a ten-year period I initiated a series of Non Violent Communication courses and facilitated a number of groups where people were able to explore their use of communication.

Other passions of mine include playing music, painting, reading, writing, running, yoga, gardening, cold water swimming, frisbee and dancing…
