Hi, my name is Ian H Powell but my friends know me as “iam” (pronounced somewhere between Ian and Liam).

The first wedding and the first funeral I conducted both occurred in 2012 when I was requested by friends to serve as a minister of sorts, something I took as a very great honour. Since my adolescence I have performed many functions as a public speaker because I’m able to find the right words when it counts. Since then, I have qualified through the International College of Professional Celebrants.

Much of my life has been spent on a quest for truth; mostly working in the fields of the Arts and Education. Producing all kinds of artwork, I’ve had numerous articles, books and poems published. Hosting countless events from weddings and funerals to festivals and concerts, I’ve also facilitated workshops and ceremonial settings for rites of passage.

As a father of three girls and one boy, I have been able to experience many of the trials and the challenges, the joys and the pleasures of family life. Working with many other children as well as my own, I have been able to see first hand, the power of family support, especially through the difficult challenges life can bring.

For years, I have studied communication and I have been entrusted to work as a mediator for couples as well as offering counsel to individual clients upon request. During a ten-year period I initiated a series of Non Violent Communication groups where people were able to explore their use of communication.

Other passions of mine include playing music, painting, reading, running, yoga, cold water swimming, frisbee and dancing…
