The Handyman

Helping Hands When You Need Them

Between services as a celebrant, I often help people at home, solving their problems and fixing their practical issues, getting their houses to feel comfortable and to look beautiful. The application of my physical skills is often a welcome contrast to the familiar role of serving families as a celebrant.

I love the meditative simplicity of painting, I love the smell of sawdust and the satisfaction of working with wood. Repairing a roof or preparing a vegetable patch is just as meaningful to me as helping people navigate the hard times and the good times.

Known for being resourceful and finding neat solutions to problems… I avoid using excessive materials and really don’t like wastage. That being said… if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing properly… my dad and my grandad were both engineers and very handy about the house… men in whose footsteps I try to follow.

Ashes to Ashes...
Dust to Sawdust

From ashes to ashes… and dust to sawdust. If you need practical help… you can use my calendly link for access to my live diary… book me in advance to reserve time to help with your home projects.

Folding Staircase

Client needed a mezzanine in their barn with access that wouldn't limit the parking of vehicles in the bay below. Came up with this folding staircase that ensured the weight was carried by the stringers and not the hinges. The heavyweight construction when finished was rendered nearly weightless by a pulley system.

Garden Landscaping

Retired couple needed a shed and other finishing touches for the back garden: laying slabs, creating raised beds & trellis installation.

Kitchen Refit

A retired couple wanted to have a sense of a new kitchen without having to shell out upwards of £20,000. Suggested having a really deep clean and to replace worktops, sink and cupboard handles. After repainting, the whole place sparkled and felt like new.

The Team:

Keen to help out... I occasionally take my little boy Mark out on jobs with me where appropriate. He takes charge of sorting screws, handing tools up when I'm on ladders and managing the toolbox generally.
